How come Jesus hated and bad mouthed the rabbi/pharisee at large?

I've read that the first century Jewish rabbi/pharisee was identical to the modern day Christian parson, or Catholic priest? Had funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.?? Had the best place in the church, and like to be greeted in public? Had a real serious and long face when they prayed? How come Jesus hated and bad mouthed them at large??
