Can you freeze sour cream for future use? If so, how is the best way to thaw it out? ?

I use sour cream for a hash brown cerole and I keep as many items for the recipe on hand. Just wondering if it is possible to freeze sour cream and thaw it our when needed. Thanks for your istance.
